Description
16th Century Scandinavian Antique Table Top Box With Iron Bindings & Original Polychromy
A late 16th Century Scandinavian antique table top box of boarded construction with iron bindings / strapwork.
With a plank lid, the front, back and end boards painted in their original polychrome. The end-boards retain their original iron carry-handles.
The plank lid opens to reveal a void interior.
The box retains its original lock and lock plate albeit the key is long since lost.
Supported overall on four turned bun feet.
Provenance – Unknown.
Condition – as per the images. The plank top and base may have been repainted at a later date but the paint appears to be historic in its own right. The strap hinges have broken due to age-related wear. We believe that these should be left as found. The bun feet may have been replaced historically. A further detailed condition report is available upon request.
