Diminutive 16th-Century Antique Leather Clad Table Casket / Coffret

A diminutive 16th-century continental table top casket / coffret.

Constructed from timber with its original leather covering and retaining its original forged iron lock plate, hasp, carry handle, hinges and straps. The decorative brass tacks also remain.

The domed lid opens to reveal an interior void of any fittings aside the remnants of its original red fabric lining.

This piece has all the charm of the period which it relates.

Condition – Please refer to the images. There is age-related wear and evidence of historic / inactive woodworm (treated). Structurally the casket is sound, the only defect being a break to one of the hinges (last picture) which appears to have been later-bonded to the carcass.
