Description
Vicke Lindstrand ‘Det Luktar Fisk’ Vase
This vase, amusingly named ‘Det Luktar Fisk’ (It smells like fish), was designed by Vicke Lindstrand for Kosta, Sweden, circa 1955.
The hand-engraved vase displays the image of a cat, seated beneath a collection of fishing nets which have been hung up to dry.
Vicke Lindstrand is a prominent figure in the history of Scandinavian glass. He is best regarded for his engraved works produced by Orrefors glassworks during the ‘Swedish Grace’ movement of the 1930’s.
This stylised vase of the 1950’s retains Lindstrand’s artistry for hand-engraved glass, but shows also the more playful and whimsical approach to Modernism taken by the designer during this later period.
